Ah, those iPhone apps: There are millions of ’em, and every single one is a must-have (OK, so maybe not iSnort…). But finally, we have an app out there with usefulness that extends past five minutes of fun on your iPhone.

Pocket Puppy Raiser, created by an application developer in Texas, allows iPhone users to interact with a virtual  puppy by rubbing its belly, playing tug ‘o war, etc. While the concept itself is not exactly new, a portion of the proceeds from the $2.99 download will be given to the Guide Dogs of Texas (they raise, train and provide guide dogs to the visually impaired).

Hoping to take things a step further, the creater of Pocket Puppy Raiser is hoping to upgrade his app by allowing users to raise their virtual puppy to become a virtual guide dog, who would take its owner for walks on sidewalks and stop at busy crosswalks.
