Dog of the Day: Sebastian from Arizona Humane Society!

Sebastian may be mature in age, but this Australian shepherd shows no sign of slowing down at the age of six, and he lives his life with great zest.

Coming from a ranch that ended up with too many animals to care for, Sebastian is now looking for a forever family who lives an active lifestyle, and has plenty of room at their house for him to run and explore.

At heart he belongs on a another ranch and finding a home with wide open spaces would be this doggie’s dream come true, but he will settle for a spacious yard and plenty of exercise.

Sebastian loves to be around his humans, and since he doesn’t have a tail, he will wiggle his whole body to show how happy he is to be near those he loves most.

Sebastian is a genius, and this clever canine knows every trick in the book: Sit, down, stay, come, wait, shake, and roll over. He loves to learn new tricks, and he catches on to new things in minutes.

Australian shepherds need to be kept busy, and they are hard-working dogs that enjoy having a “job” to do. He would really excel in agility training or advanced obedience classes.

On the ranch, he helped his human companions by working around livestock. He was excellent at rounding up cattle and working with the horses. If he were to find a home in the city he MUST have a yard, and plenty of exercise is essential. Simple chores like fetching the paper will suffice his desire to assist his human pals.

Sebastian is wonderful around livestock, but he is a little rowdy around other dogs and a dog introduction is required before he can go to a home with other dogs. He hasn’t lived with felines before, and because of his breed, more than likely he will chase cats if they run. The “herding” type dogs tend to herd small children, so Sebastian would do best in a home with kids who were at leash 10-years-old.

You can adopt Sebastian NOW at the Arizona Humane Society’s Nina Mason Pulliam Campus for Compassion, 1521 West Dobbins Road in Phoenix. His adoption fee is just $35 since he is a Prime Time dog.
