After a long, hard day at the office, why not hit the couch and crack open a beer with…your dog? A pet supplies store owner in Sydney, Australia has developed a type of beer that is safe for dogs to drink–regular beer is bad for dogs because they cannot safely metabolize it.

The drink, simply called Dog Beer, tastes like beef and smells like beer. It comes in brown bottles that look just like regular beer bottles.

According to the maker of Dog Beer, the special brew, which costs about $5 a bottle, is especially popular with male dog owners.

K9 Commentary:

I guess it was just a matter of time before something like this came out–I’m sure doggie cigarettes are right around the corner. Well, I guess if you really, really need a drinking buddy on a lonely Friday night, a bottle of doggie brew for your German shepherd is just what the veterinarian ordered.

I looked to see if there were any dog beer makers here in the U.S., and I found one San Francisco-based company that used to make dog beer, but have stopped selling it.

I guess we’re just not quite ready to answer tough questions like: When you buy dog beer, who gets carded–you, or the dog?
