Taipei Considers Making Dog Owners Buy Insurance
Beginning in March, Taipei city government may require dog owners to purchase liability insurance against damages caused by their dogs.
The city government is working on a proposal to institute mandatory dog insurance against injuries to third party persons, animals and property by dogs registered to city residents.
Failure to get insured would carry a fine.
Currently, it is uncertain if the legislation will include all canines or only certain breeds.
Officials in Taipei in favor of the measure believe it is needed because domesticated dogs are more territorial than wild dogs and may attack if threatened.
