Former Couple Shells Out $40K in Dog Custody Battle

Speaking of dog custody, a couple that broke off their engagement three years ago is in the midst of a court battle over their dog, a 6-year-old pug named Dexter. The grand total in legal fees so far? More than $40,000.

The custody shenanigans have been going on since 2007, when it was originally ruled Eric Dare would get to keep the dog, and would give his ex-fiance Doreen Houseman $1,500, which was the original cost of the dog when they purchased him.

The case is once again back in court thanks to a number of appeals.

Before making his decision, the judge has asked each attorneys from each side to prepare statements detailing why he or she should get the dog.
