I’ve been staring at this bag of powder for weeks–just sitting in the doggie cupboard, saying “Make me! Bake me!”

Last night, it was finally go-time: I grabbed my bag of Cheesy Dog Treat Mix and got to bakin’.

I’m a big fan of baking human treats, so I know my way around an oven. But even if I didn’t know what the heck I was doing, Maggie’s Dog Munchies are a snap to make. You just need to add some oil, an egg and a little bit of water to the powder mix. Mix all that up in a bowl, roll the dough out onto a floured flat surface, and use the disgustingly adorable little paw-shaped cookie cutter that comes with the mix.

I managed to fill two cookie sheets with treats! Popped both sheets into the oven at 375 degrees for about 25 minutes, and out came about 80 little paw-shaped morsels.

Once they cooled, Pom and Casper, who always know when something in the kitchen is coming their way, were ready to assume taste-test duties.

Honestly, I’ve never seen them devour a dog biscuit so eagerly. Once they got a taste of these things, they were taking them into private spots around the living room like I just gave them slabs of delicious beef.

Once you get over that hurdle of “I can just go buy PRE-MADE treats, why go to the trouble of making them,” you’ll be glad you got out your mixing bowl and did something extra special for your pooches.

Pros: Dogs love them! Fun and easy to make. Makes lots of treats (at about 10 bucks for a bag of mix, you get about 80+ treats)

Cons: …you have to make them, so it’s not something you’re likely to do, or want to do, often. You’ll need to have a few basic ingredients on-hand, such as an egg and some oil, to add to the mixture.
