Standoff: Beary White vs. The Cat

beary vs. cat

I took these pictures a few months ago, back when Beary was still a young puppy… I think Shannon and I probably had him for almost three weeks at that point. Well, one day I wanted to check the mail and, bam, there’s this tawny, tiger-striped kitty on the doorstep! Beary, following close behind me, naturally stared at this new creature with utter content and fascination. He wanted to get closer to the cat, but I held his leash close to me, in case that cat were to lunge at him. We walked back inside but Beary wouldn’t leave the front door, and he started whimpering all of the sudden. So I opened the door with the leash attached to him, and the dog v. cat standoff continued. I actually think this kitty wanted to come inside and chill, but he/she hissed at Beary, so that was out of the question.

All three of us must’ve just sat there for about 10 to 15 minutes, waiting what would happen next… and nothing big ever happened. No chasing. No fighting. No more hissing. In fact, I actually closed the door, played with Beary for a while, went back to the door and STILL saw the cat… totally relaxed right in front of our door. It was strange. I kept checking in every once in a while and the cat just wouldn’t leave. Sure, it walked up and down the stairs, laid in corner, then moved to another, but he/she didn’t head back to his/her home till five o’clock in the evening… mind you, this had started some time around 1 p.m. All in all, everything went civil and Beary gained a newfound appreciation for cats that day, but I often wonder what happened to that cat. And was it a male or female cat?
