Dog of the Day: Sonja from Arizona Humane Society!

Sonja is more of a sensitive Labrador with a long and sad story. Most one-year old Labradors are carefree and confident, but due to a frightening past, Sonja is a little unsure of new things.

Her life has taken another unpredictable turn and although it was difficult for everyone, her family brought her to the Arizona Humane Society to search for a different place to call home. The only thing that Sonja knows for sure is that she can provide her new human companion with a lifetime of friendship, and once she finds that special someone her future will be bright.

Sonja is a bashful girl who needs a kind and reassuring companion. An endless amount of love is all this sweet doggie needs to help her beautiful personality blossom. She is a little head-shy, and she flinches with fast movements.

She would do best in a quiet home with easygoing human companions who will pet her softly and give her their undivided attention. Rowdy children may scare her, but she may enjoy the companionship of mature and well-mannered children who are at least 12-years old.

With the help of our volunteers and dedicated staff members, Sonja has shown us that she knows the “sit” command, enjoys soft treats, and she likes her chin rubbed.

Sonja hasn’t met other doggies before, and a very slow introduction is recommended. She must find a home without felines because she doesn’t enjoy the company of cats.

You can adopt Sonja NOW at the Arizona Humane Society’s Nina Mason Pulliam Campus for Compassion, 1521 West Dobbins Road in Phoenix. Her adoption fee is just $100. This fee includes her spay surgery, vaccinations, a colorful collar and leash, an AHS I.D. tag, and a free follow-up veterinary examination. For more information about Sonja, please call (602) 997-7586 Ext. 1045 and ask for animal ID number A258480 or log on to www.azhumane.org.

Please note: This pet might have been adopted by the time you visit the shelter; however, the AHS has dozens more wonderful pets that also need loving homes. Please take a moment to meet some of the other dogs, cats and other companion animals at the shelter! To see all our adoptable animals right now, www.azhumane.org/findapet.
