In response to numerous complaints, the city of Baltimore is hitting dog owners hard with $1,000 fines for law violations.
These violations include not picking up their dog’s waste or not having their dog attached to a leash no longer than six feet. The city hopes such fines will help put an end to attacks by unleashed dogs on people or other dogs.
Many dog owners in the area feel such laws are necessary, but feel the amount of the fines are excessive.
This week, members of the city council will propose a bill that will reduce the amount of the fine from $1,000 down to $250 for first-time offenders.
