Increasing Number of Couples Using Dogs in Their Wedding Ceremonies

In the new movie “I Love You Man,” the main character, played by uber funnyman Paul Rudd, is looking to make some guy-friends in order to fill out his side of the wedding party…turns out he could have saved himself a lot of trouble (and awkward moments) by just putting a few pooches in the wedding.

These days, seeing a dog play the role of ring-bearer at a wedding is pretty common–in fact, in a survey of 3,000 pet owners that are clients of Veterinary Pet Insurance, 42 percent say they had or plan on having their pets in their wedding.

As expected, the dog wedding clothing industry is booming (yes, that sentence just happened). There are a number of online dog clothing stores that supply wedding outfits for canines–tuxedos, dress shirts, bridesmaid’s dresses…there’s even the option to have your dog’s threads custom-made to match the theme or style of the wedding.

Worried about how your dog will behave while walking down the isle? Many dog etiquette books provide information on how to train your dog to make sure the canine portion of your big day goes off without a hitch.

Hopefully, your dog won’t bark during the “Does anyone object to this wedding?” part of the ceremony.
