On the heels of some good news for owners of pit bulls in Oregon–that legislation to ban pit bulls in the state will not be introduced this year–comes the introduction of a new proposal that would requite anyone who owns a pit bull in the state of Oregon to purchase liability insurance.
Local pit bulls activists and rescue organizations argue that many owners would not be able to afford such insurance, which would result in an increase in the number of pit bulls seen in animals shelters as a result of owners having to give up their dogs for financial reasons.
Rescue organizations plan to write letters to Oregon lawmakers in hopes of getting the bill removed from consideration.
