Hey K9ners – We’ve got some bittersweet news here: A white labrador retriever was found, although in bit of bad shape. He’s since been fed and is in good care. Below are the details. From my sister’s co-worker who’s taking care of him right now:
i am just trying to get the word out there…. brad was on the way home last night from work and saw the car in front of him almost hit a dog. they stopped and he ended up bringing him home. after checking him out, it appears that he has been on his own for some time. he is a little beat up and super skinny, but…… i gave him food and he sat, gave me his paw, laid down, rolled over, plays ball, walks on a leash… he is so well behaved. he is a neutered, male white lab, probably 4-8 years old. i have been keeping him in the garage just to keep him separate from our dogs, but he loves the kids, loves other dogs, is so super friendly. he has a tan collar on but no tags. we gave him a bath and he just sat in the yard. he let me check his ears and teeth and just sat there. he doesn’t bark, but does cry when we leave him. you can tell he was someone’s pet, and was so loving. i called the spca and they said they would keep him for 1-3 days and then put him down… no way. so i am sending this to all of you hoping someone will find his owners. tomorrow we are taking him to the vet to scan him for a micro chip, but if he doesn’t have one, we aren’t sure what to do. the local web sites and animal control / cops have no reports of any missing animals, but if he has been on his own for some time, he could be from anywhere!! i did put an add on craigs list, but am trying to reach as many people as possible. also if there is another way you know to get the word out there, please let me know. i attached some pics, please spread the word. thanks so much, and hopefully he will be home soon:)
He seems like such a sweet dog…I hope he finds his home or a new home soon! Euthanasia based on days of stay seems like an extreme policy for a humane society…perhaps it was the local animal shelter they called? If so, I wonder if other humane societies in the area would be able to care for him. A rescue group may also be a worthy try! I’m sure he would easily be accepted.
