Yale University’s Wall of Handsome Dans

Yale University’s mascot is the bulldog. As a bulldog, once you get the gig as mascot for this prestigious Ivy League institution, you are forever immortalized as part of the school.

Literally.

Once the Handsome Dans pass away, they are stuffed and placed in sealed glass. The Handsome Dans throughout Yale history can be found in various places around the school.

Here’s Handsome Dan #1, who was Yale mascot in the late 1800s:

Here’s Handsome Dan #2, who performed his Yale mascot duties from 1933-1937:

You be the judge: Creepy? Or cool?

I love my dogs but I don’t know if I’d go the taxidermy route. Just saying.

Whenever an individual or even a business decides that success may be attained, progress stops.
Time could be the scarcest resource and unless it’s managed very little else could be managed.

Enjoyed seeing the taxidermied Handsome Dans! I’m doing a follow-up to this old blog http://www.museumtextiles.com/1/category/bulldog/1.html and I’m including your picture. Thanks!
