Casper, Clickers, and Seven Barking Dogs

caspertraining.jpgToday was Casper’s second obedience training class. Cindy had to work, so Casper and I were on our own for this one.

Our first class took place right before Fourth of July weekend, so there were only two other dogs in the class with us.

It turned out to be a good thing, since it gave Casper a chance to get used to being around just a couple of dogs to start.

Today, the class was packed to capacity. There were eight dogs, including Casper. Oddly enough, Casper, who usually whimpers nonstop and the sight of another dog, whimpered a lot loss than he did during the first class. I’m pretty sure the sight of so many dogs at once just overwhelmed him, and he had no idea what to do.

Casper and I went through the two exercises given to us by the instructors without much trouble. When other dogs tried to run over to him or barked at him, he ignored them most of the time. In our world, this was a HUGE breakthrough (true, it may have helped that I was using cooked, crumbled ground beef and hot dog pieces as training treats, but I’ll do what I gotta do, man).

I had to take a quick picture with my cell phone to properly illustrate how completely exhausted Casper looked in the car on the way home from class.

Two classes, down three to go.
