The best answer probably because dog poop can get treated just as your poop is. Throwing dog poop in the trash overcrowds our landfills and pollutes our water system.

The only generally accepted definition of &quot;biodegradable&quot; is that of the ASTM6400-99. There are only two dog poop bags that meet this specification (California&#039;s consumer protection laws require manufacturers to prove that they comply with this spec.)

Besides, the EPA enforces landfill designers to work toward INHIBITING biodegradabilty and the off-gassing that results in that environment when decomposition takes place. Further, the &quot;OXO-biodegradable&quot; bags shown contain heavy metal salts that are supposed to encourage degradation...just what we need metals leaching in the soil!
